The big gentle giant
Joker
He might be a triple supreme champion in the show ring but this boy is modest, laid back and respectful. Known as Jojo, he is highly intelligent and understands a lot of what you say - he sits down for me if he needs some TLC and will even go to another paddock when I ask. Jo is a working stud male and the biggest, strongest boy of the group but he is just a soppy teddy. He allows babies to fluff his face up and lets the youngest boys of the herd climb all over him when they want to use him as a wrestling partner. He never pushes in and if one of the other boys confronts him, Joker will just turn away. He is an absolute pea monster and is constantly looking for these snacks!
Naughty, growly, bossy and full of beans!
Jasper
I call Jasper the 'gangster' as he thinks he is one! He walks everywhere with a swagger and although he is quite small and skinny, he has a huge personality. A little skittish, he is not a cuddly boy but his endearing growl he makes at anyone and everything will have you laughing.
Jazzy is very dominant when it comes to getting treats - he makes sure he is right there at the front and will defend his place. He is the only boy who loves to eat pineapple! His best friend was Clifton and he was heartbroken when we lost Cliff. It took Jazzy months to get over his loss but he is right back to gangster status again.
Fearless, confident and just plain cute!
Ocado or Occy
"Careless Whisper"
I know I shouldn't have a favourite so I don't! Occy is my favourite "favourite"! He is Joker's son and I fell in love with this boy when he was just a few months old. He is very vocal, playful and totally fearless. His confidence always amazes me as even dogs don't seem to faze him - he would go and sniff them given the chance. Occy is super cuddly and one of his favourite things has always been trekking. He just loves his walks! Taking after his uncle Bubbles and Dad Joker, grapes are his best snack.
Big, goofy, loveable guardsman
Macca Paca
"Mac"
Macca is a firm favourite with everyone he meets and loves to plant kisses on you whether you want them or not! Don't worry though as it is more a nose rub than anything and alpacas cannot lick you. He likes to check everyone out to see if you are friendly. Don't be fooled by his big, goofy appearance as Macca is a very brave boy - he is super protective of the others and will go towards danger to confront it. He likes nothing more than to be fed hay whilst he lies down and to have his legs and feet splashed with the hose.
A real sensitive soul
Bubbles
"Bubbles and Bowties"
Highly sensitive and now quite the grown up, Bubbles is a quiet and very sweet boy. He will never push in for treats but will wait patiently for something tasty (hoping for grapes). Known for his funny jumps which erupt out of nowhere, Bubbles is an intelligent boy and very responsive to his name. I often find him waiting for me on his own as I come out of the tack room (he knows where the food is!). He can be prone to being a little moody at times but is very cuddly and loves having any lotions and potions put on him. His friendship with Barney is a beautiful thing to watch as they are always together side by side. Full brother to Joker, he shares the same confidence and love of fruit as his big bro.
Totally quirky and very affectionate
Mr Sharps
"Sharply Dressed Man"
There is no other alpaca quite like Mr Sharps! He is a blue eyed white meaning he is completely deaf but with this comes an abundance of quirkiness and affection. He loves nothing more than an all over body massage and will come up to you and ask to be stroked. Part of the trekking team, he likes to walk down the back in his own little world. His best friends are his brother Mr T and pal Tucker - I call them the three amigos as they are always together. Mr Sharps is one of the four brothers here alongside Joker, Bubbles and Mr T.
Big, loveable teddy bear
Mr T
"Top hats and Tiaras"
Known as 'TT', this is one cuddly boy! He will let you get really close once he starts to trust you. Good friends with Tucker and best buddies with his brother Mr Sharps, he looks out for both and makes concerned noises if they go out of view. I think Mr T's biggest passion in life is food! Carrots are his absolute favourite but bring on the parsnips too.
Gentle and sensitive, he never puts a foot wrong and allows the littler ones to cuddle up with him.
Quiet and lazy with a naughty streak
Tucker
"Bib and Tucker"
Tucker is a bit of a dark horse - he's super lazy and just loves relaxing but he has a bit of a naughty streak in him. He likes to annoy the others on occasion and I have seen him many times poking boys when they are sleeping. Not a fan of being stroked, he will give you a nice nose rub kiss if you go down to his eye level. Although he is more likely to sit right down at your feet first as he doesn't want to stand for too long. He will never push in for food so if you want to give him a treat, you have to make an effort to get them to him or save a few to sneakily pass across later.
Cheeky!
Tom
"Phantom"
One of the newest boys to the family, Tom is oh so cheeky! He is super confident and absolutely fearless. Nephew to Joker and first cousin to Occy, he definitely has the confidence genes! He is very big for his age and rarely stops moving. A bit like an inquisitive puppy, Tom is into everything and has to nibble most things to see what they are. Everywhere I go, Tom is right there at my elbow and tries to help even when I am cleaning the alpaca loos! Completely endearing he looks like he is always smiling - a total heartbreaker!
Innocent, sweet and well mannered
Bertie
"Alberto"
Teeny tiny and impossibly cute! Bertie is the most well mannered alpaca I have ever met and his eyes actually shine when he sees any fruit or veg snacks, especially bananas. Still growing in confidence, he is the youngest boy of the group. He seems to have a real fondness for wrestling and seems able to even persuade the big boys to join in with him. When not wrestling Bertie bounces everywhere, he is a very springy boy!
The shy one
Winston
"Broadchurch"
Winston is one of my holiday boys and on first arrival to the farm seemed to suffer from an extreme case of shyness. After a lot of encouragement and having now settled in with his new family, Winnie is eating out of your hand and even sitting next to people he doesn't know. It has been wonderful to watch this boy blossom into his full true self. He is not yet comfortable with being stroked and may never be but that's OK. Every week I see this boy try new things and grow braver and more confident exploring his holiday home. The only problem is that I don't think I can say goodbye now and let him go home... best get my purse out then.
The Prime Minister of the herd
Penfold
"Able Penhale"
How they choose who the boss is I don't know but it is most certainly Penfold! He is all talk and no action though so when there is something scary, Macca Paca takes charge. Penfold has always been quite wary of being stroked but lately he is starting to change and let certain people even give him a head massage. He just loves having a shower and will take over all command of the splash pool when it makes a summer appearance.
Nervous but growing in confidence
Jive
"Jive Jumping"
Jive is quite a highly strung boy and is another one of my holiday boys I have fallen for. He trusts me now implicitly and likes me stroking him so I groom him most mornings. Jive does get scared quite easily but has taken to following me about if he thinks I have got carrots in my pocket. Try and give him a grape though and he will spit in disgust. Being with a big group of boys has made Jive feel safe and accepted. I hope we have him as part of our family for a long time to come.
Gone now but NEVER forgotten!
Clifton
My sweet boy Cliff, forever in my heart and lost way too soon! Clifton was a rather shy boy but growing in confidence especially as one of the trek team. He was very close to his best friend Jasper and followed him around everywhere. Often getting into trouble (this was down to Jazzy) he was curious and loved exploring. Cliff didn't like to be touched at all so we had a special understanding that when it came to putting his halter on, Cliff put his own face in to minimise contact. A very special boy indeed.
Independent and free spirited
Barney
"Formal Attire"
Barney is always with Bubbles - these two have a very close bond and are never apart. Barney though is definitely the boss of the two and will bite Bubbles' ears to show it. Bubbles though adores him and lets Barney sleep resting on his back. Totally independent, this boy knows his own mind and will not be told what to do. He can be a little skittish at times and hates to be stroked on the top of his head. Give him a banana though and he will be putty in your hands. I should add Barney is a bit of a dustbin and eats everything but bananas are his number one.
Clever and a bit grumpy
Batman
Batman is a bit like a grumpy old lady at times - he has a very unique sound when he is telling someone off which sounds a bit like a raptor. Whenever I have little young ones join the herd, they seem to single out Batman to chase which is very funny to watch. Known as Batty, this boy is a bit of an escape artist and can even undo locks and zips. He can get into my rucksack and I have seen him sliding the bolt open on the tack room door. Batty loves to have his bum washed in the shower and is very polite when it comes to waiting for treats.
Loveable and naughty
Langford
This is one unique and special boy. Named after the Royal Veterinary College where he was born, Langford was born by caesarean section. His mum Angelica didn't recognise him afterwards as her baby so Langford had to be raised on a bottle. He is Barney's half brother and is the nephew of Joker, Bubbles, Mr T and Mr Sharps meaning he is from the same line of boys who have all turned out to be super friendly, affectionate and love to be touched. This temperament combined with being bottle fed has meant Langford does have a few behavioural issues. He has been learning fast the past few months how to be an alpaca now he is in with a large herd of boys. His intense interest in humans is reducing and he is being helped by his two little pals Roary and Langford.
Sweet and dreamy
Philly
"Philadelphia"
Little Phil is so sweet natured! He is cuddly, inquisitive and always looking for snacks. He has just learnt what carrots and grapes are all about so now thinks you always have them in your pocket. Philly is here to help Langford learn how to be an alpaca and has taught him how to play. He has also been instrumental in helping Langford develop his herding instincts by literally herding him to ensure he follows everyone. A little bit dreamy, Philly always seems relaxed and is just a happy little chap.
The naughty fawn
Roary
"Uproar"
Skittish should be Roary's middle name! He jumps at every opportunity but he is getting a little braver. You can now encourage him gently to eat from your hand and he has just realised that carrots are not going to hurt him. Roary loves his besties Philly and Langford and spends his days hanging out with these two, wrestling and getting up to mischief. He has been trekking a few times but he is very nervous so I think he is destined to be a stay at home boy.
He just wants cuddles!
Snowball
Sheep? More like a dog! Snowball is the most adorable, loving and affectionate sheep going. He just wants cuddles, love and kisses, as much as he can get. I cannot go anywhere without this woolly thing following me. Living in with the alpacas as the other sheep rejected him, Snowy is now living his best ever sheep life. He has his best friend Queenie sheep who is always by his side and they have lots of adventures together.
Bossy, sassy and noisy
Queenie
Queenie came to the farm as a much needed companion for Snowball. They are now firm friends and go everywhere together. This sheep girl is larger than life and has so much sass she even looks like she is walking on high heels. Loud and also very clever, Queenie will answer me when I call her and will get up and follow me when I ask. She goes crazy for rich tea biscuits and is legendary for her back flipping manoeuvres when she starts the games off with the alpaca boys.
Great teeth and a real snuggler
Dave
Dave Sheep has the neatest set of bright white teeth and just loves a cuddle. He is really affectionate and quite a quiet chap. Handsome with his black face and impressive horns, Dave is a laid back boy. He can be a little shy but did once come to get me and baaed consistently until I followed him - he wanted to lead me to Gerald who was caught up in some brambles. Clever boy!
Always up to no good with Woolly
Gerald
Best friend and partner in crime to Woolly, Gerald is very confident and curious. Not a fan of being stroked so much but will come up to greet you. Also very dominant when it comes to food and uses his horns to get what he wants.
Head sheep and very intelligent
Woolly
Head sheep Woolly definitely has a mischievous glint in his eye. The boss of the boy sheep, Woolly is very intelligent and seems to understand what you say to him so that you actually think you are having a conversation (or maybe that is just me!). When the rich tea biscuits come out, Woolly goes a little crazy and will jump up to grab them.
He is shy and sweet
Pippin
Such a shy boy is Pippin! When the treats come out I have to make sure Pip gets his share as he will never push in and gets a bit rail-roaded by the others. He won't let anyone touch him but me and will only eat from my hand. Sweet, sensitive and gentle.
